NEW Milton Town returned to their winning ways, blasting eight unanswered goals past an outmatched AFC Netley side.

The hosts, who welcomed Hampshire Premier League side AFC Netley to the DMW Stadium, were rampant, scoring six times in a ruthless first 45 minutes.

The Linnets started the season by firing 13 goals in their opening four games, but the dazzling run ended with three games without victory.

However, the Southampton Senior Cup win shows they have rediscovered their shooting boots.

The star of the show was New Milton Town’s James Kinge Phillips, with the attacker’s pace and movement proving too much for the visiting defence to handle.

Phillips was deadly in front of goal, punishing the keeper with every chance he got, firing his way to five goals in just 32 minutes.

The hosts grabbed two further goals through the experienced Brad Snelling, one on either side of the break.

The most eye-catching goal of his brace was an excellent diving header, which would have still been impressive if one of the many younger players had managed it.

Maintaining the strike rate in the second half would always be challenging, but the action was far from over, with Luca Lane finding space and beating the keeper to score his first-ever senior goal.

After the emphatic victory, New Milton Town have been drawn to face Downton FC away from home in the second round.

New Milton returns to league action on Saturday at 3pm when they host promotion contenders Frimley Green for the second of what will be a run of six straight home games.
