Local father and son Mick and Brendan Anglim take duathlon success in their stride
HARDLEY Runners’ father-and-son duo Mick and Brendan Anglim stormed to remarkable duathlon performances at the Oulton Park Duathlon.
Mick added to his already remarkable international medal tally by becoming M75 British duathlon champion, while son Brendan qualified to be a part of the M50 GB sprint team.
Brendan’s impressive showing, which included two sharp climbs during the one-lap run, five bike laps and another one-lap run, will allow him to compete in the GB squad at the 2023 World Championship Sprint Duathlon in Ibiza.
Mick won the British Duathlon Championships in the M60, M65 and M70 categories before adding the M75 title in his first year in the age group.
He completed the race in 2 hours 22 minutes, finishing more than 20 minutes ahead of the second-placed M75 competitor.
Mick was particularly pleased to beat all but two of the M70 competitors, as a toe clip broke before the start, making the bike climbs even tougher.
Both Mick and Brendan will compete in the English Duathlon Championships in Yorkshire in a fortnight, with Mick planning to enter eight international duathlons this year.
One of the later events will be the World Sprint Duathlon in Romania, where Mick will compete with both his son Brendan and daughter Erin in the GB team for the first time.
