Midweek football round-up: Brockenhurst hit six again, Lymington wait for first win, and Hythe & Dibden and Ringwood Town feature

WITH four local sides in midweek action this week, Brockenhurst were the big winners, winning 6-3, meaning they have now scored six in back-to-back games.

However, besides the Badgers, the other local sides all lost – Lymington Town are still waiting for their first win, while Hythe & Dibden shipped six, and Ringwood Town exited the Velocity Wessex League Cup.

The Badgers made the trip over to the Isle of Wight to face Cowes Sports, and they were ruthless, taking their tally to 12 goals in two games.

The opener came after just 11 minutes when striker Tiago Moreno grabbed his fourth in two games after showing his striker’s instincts, turning a wayward shot home.

The second came after a melee in the box after the host defence tried and failed multiple times to clear the ball, with Joel Francis firing home after 23 minutes.

Brock were playing lovely football at this stage, and after some quick passing, Elliott Pearce-Eavis beat the keeper before Cowes pulled one back before the break.

Straight after the break, the hosts made it 3-2 when John McKie chipped keeper Will Butler, and they went on to enjoy a sustained period of pressure.

The Badgers were struggling to escape their half, but with 68 minutes played, a miss-hit pass found Luke Gray, who, from 45 yards out, found the top right corner, but Cowes pulled one back again two minutes later.

Brock manager Danny Ackland rung the changes, and his substitutes rewarded his decision, with two coming off the bench to seal the win.

With 77 minutes played, centre-back Tyler Wellman nodded home a free-kick from the right before Lyle Simpson wrapped up the win with a lovely finish into the bottom corner.

Lymington Town may have been hoping for an easier life after back-to-back relegations left them in Velocity Wessex Division One, but it has been a baptism of fire, with four straight losses.

Lymington dropped down a league from the Southern League Division One ranks after gaining enough points to avoid relegation after the club fell foul of ground grading rules.

The punishment sparked a mass exodus from the club, with just one player, Tom Mann, remaining after every player and coach left, and the side went on to suffer a second relegation in two seasons.

After an even start to the match, Verwood benefited from a slice of good luck when a tame shot after a corner struck Lymington’s Richard Sesay and flew into his net.

Manager Ash Buckland would have been pleased with his side’s reaction, getting themselves back on level terms in the 37th minute when Joe Lovell fired home with a low shot from 20 yards out.

Verwood Town surged ahead after the break, capitalising on a defensive lapse by Lymington Town that allowed Joe White to score easily from close range at the near post.

Just after the hour mark, Hubert Cegielka went clear for Lymington, but he had to look on as his excellent lob beat the keeper but bounced narrowly wide.

Lymington were made to pay for the miss, with Verwood sealing the win with just six minutes left when Matthieu Grzybowski fired home from outside the area, beating the dive of new Lymington keeper Nico Trojanowski, signed on a dual registration with AFC Totton.

Hythe & Dibden, who have made a decent start to the season, fell 6-1 losers to Fareham Town, who sit second in the Velocity Wessex Premier league.

Dylan Hacon made it 1-1 for Hythe, but thanks to a Connor Underhill brace and goals from Sam Woodward, Brandon Jewell, Charlie Cooper and Harvey Aston, Fareham earned the spoils with four second-half goals.

Ringwood Town exited the cup after a 4-1 loss to Laverstock & Ford, who play in the league above the New Forest side.

Lavvy took a two-goal lead before Pat Correia pulled one back, but the well-organised hosts scored another two after the break to seal victory.
