Southern League Division One South football: Bashley climb to fourth after Falmouth victory
Southern League Division One South
Bashley FC 2
Falmouth Town AFC 1
BASHLEY took on Falmouth Town for the first time, and the 401 at the Veho Community Stadium will have enjoyed the experience after the side won 2-1.
Bashley took a two-goal lead through Luke Delaney and Scott Bungay – his second in as many games – before Oscar Massey pulled one back.
Bashley started the match brilliantly, with their young players closing down the Falmouth players as soon as they received the ball.
The approach led to an interception high up the pitch with four minutes played, with right winger Jamie Arnold crossing the ball quickly to his opposite number, Luke Delaney, at the far post, who volleyed home unmarked.
With seven minutes played, Falmouth Town’s Luke Barner blazed down the wing before cutting in past two players, but Bashley’s on-loan keeper Mack Allen – the young stopper is signed by AFC Bournemouth – saved the shot well.
With 15 minutes of the half left, a messy effort on goal from Arnold led to a pinball situation that finished with Bungay latching onto the ball and firing past Morgan Coxhead in the Falmouth goal.
With the second half 12 minutes old, Luke Barner took the ball into the box before being fouled by Allen, leaving referee Oscar Whiting no choice but to point to the spot and issue a yellow.
Despite some of the younger fans trying to put Oscar Massey off the spot kick, he kept his cool and despatched an unstoppable penalty to halve the deficit.
Falmouth grew as the hosts began to tire, and with 85 minutes played, defender Harrison Jewell crashed the ball into the Bashley post, with Whiting blowing the final whistle moments later.
Bashley plays host again against Mousehole in an FA Cup first-round qualifier on Saturday at 3pm.
