Lyndhurst’s Vernon Theatre was transported to Victorian London when Cornish actor David Mynne performed his one-man Christmas Carol
FOR just one night, the Vernon Theatre was transported to Victorian London when Cornish actor David Mynne performed his one-man Christmas Carol first devised and performed in 2017.
Travelling with everything in his car and supported by director Simon Harvey, David's storytelling has now toured nationally and internationally to great acclaim.
His animated facial expressions captivated the sell-out audience as he played the tale's many characters with minimal 'extras', just a simple stage, a candelabra, a blanket and clever lighting. He inhabited each part realistically and sympathetically, often pausing the plot to carefully look down, sidestep, pivot and straighten up to assume the next role.
It was amazing how he could stir up such emotion throughout, especially when poor Tiny Tim is “played” by a bobble at the end of his scarf, a sock puppet with a tragic ill-fated cough.
A Christmas Carol was beautiful; an incredibly brilliant, inventive and creative performance by just one actor but you go home remembering a cast of dozens! Definitely not a Bah Humbug from me - David Mynne is a genius.
A mesmerising evening presented in partnership with Culture in Common and I can't wait to see him again. “God bless us, everyone”.
