Five teens arrested after couple flee attempted baseball bat robbery

FIVE teenagers were arrested after baseball bat-wielding would-be robbers targeted a man and a woman in Upper Mullins Lane, Hythe.


The victims were approached by five males who demanded they hand over personal belongings after getting out of black car that pulled up on the road at around 2.20am on Sunday.

A Hampshire police spokesman was unable to confirm local reports that the offenders also brandished knives.

He was also unable to confirm how many bats were used in the incident, although there was more than one.

Nothing was stolen as the man and woman managed to flee the scene in Upper Mullins Lane unharmed.

Police detained the five male suspects in connection with the incident: a 15-year-old from Bursledon, two 17-year-olds from Totton, a 17-year-old from Hythe and an 18-year-old from Fawley.

All were subsequently released under investigation as enquiries continue.
