Three officers hurt in struggle to arrest suspected knifeman

THREE police officers were injured as they tried to arrest a man in Totton suspected of carrying a knife.


Marked cars arrived in Hounsdown Avenue in response to a resident’s report of violence and someone holding a blade on Monday at about 4.30pm.

Although no knife was found, two men were arrested after a struggle which left several officers with minor injuries.

A 21-year-old man from Marchwood was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife/blade in a public place.

He was released with no further action for this offence. However, he remains under investigation on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker.

A 20-year-old man from Totton was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. He was released with no further action.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: “A member of the public reported seeing a man with a knife. Officers attended and arrested two people.

“During the course of the arrests, three officers sustained minor injuries. No knife was found.”
