Southern Premier/Div One
Totton & Eling 124
Bashley (Rydal) 128-2
TOTTON & Eling CC continued their patchy early season form against a Bashley (Rydal) side who went top of the table thanks to an eight-wicket victory.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the home side never got into their stride. Totton & Eling opener Oliver Thomas made an early return to the changing room after a single run. He was soon followed by Jimmy Taylor, Owen Morris and Billy Lightfoot who all failed to reach double figures to leave their side at 21-4.
Ethan Taylor (57*) then produced a resolute stand with the bat to give his side a chance. Despite this dogged display, Totton’s batsmen ended the afternoon all out for 124, with Bashley’s Mitchell Wilson claiming four wickets for 42 runs. Scott Currie (3-19), Dominick Clutterbuck (2-37) and Brad Currie (12-1) took the other wickets.
Bashley’s run chase got off to an inauspicious start when opener Michael Porter was caught by Oliver Thomas off a Hakim Peruzi ball with the run tally still standing at 0. Fellow opener Alex Turner managed to score 34 before his wicket, the final one his side would lose, fell at 79-1.
Ben Walker (63*) and Harry Fisher (20*) then combined for a superb partnership which sealed the victory for Bashley (Rydal).
Next Saturday, Bashley (Rydal) take on Lymington at the Bashley Cricket Ground, while Totton & Eling play Calmore away.
