Hampshire Counties Two rugby: Valiant Fordingbridge fight ends in Basingstoke defeat
Hampshire Counties Two
Basingstoke RFC 43
Fordingbridge RFC 10
Fordingbridge’s first team fought bravely against Basingstoke, who are currently in second place, but their efforts still resulted in defeat.
Despite losing 43-10 and conceding seven tries to two, Fordingbridge can hold their heads high for their never-say-die attitude.
The home team started powerfully, quickly surging into a 19-point lead. But Fordingbridge showed their perseverance, fighting back with two unconverted tries, hinting at a potential comeback, with the half-time score sitting at 19-10.
The visitor’s first score came after a fine individual effort from full-back Will Marsh, who displayed excellent skills and agility to weave his way through the opposition’s defence and cross the line.
The second score was equally impressive, coming as a result of a strong carry and excellent footwork from Peter Davies. Although he is usually a centre, he was playing as a stand-in hooker and used his strength and skill to break through the opposition’s line and touch down for the try.
Basingstoke upped their intensity in the second 40 minutes and ran four more tries to take the spoils.
As always, Fordingbridge remained in the contest and never took a backward step.
Fordingbridge are back in league action this Saturday when they travel to face Chichester seconds.
