New Milton Table Tennis Club players left laden with trophies at the recent annual presentation ceremony of the Bournemouth & District Association at the Riviera Hotel
A goodly number of New Milton table tennis players were on the receiving end of trophies at the recent annual presentation ceremony of the Bournemouth & District Association at the Riviera Hotel.
Association chairman Phil Hadley announced the award winners, and New Milton club secretary Bev Scott-Johns, also the association president, duly presented the trophies.
Toby Staddon, 18, and 20-year-old Max Bannon both made three trips up to the front to collect their respective trophies.
Staddon collected his Division Two singles winner’s trophy, the Harold Feltham Bournemouth handicap winner’s trophy, and then his league runners-up medal, as his C-Team came second in the league.
Bannon picked up his runner-up trophies for the Harold Feltham Bournemouth handicap and the Division One singles, then returned later to collect his Division One league winners’ medal.
Looking forward to playing in the Premier League next year is the B-Team, which won the Division One title. Wheelchair-playing captain Shaun Newcomb accompanied Bannon to collect their spoils and picked up winners’ medals for absent teammates Ian Hamilton and Nigel Bliss.
Taking their place in Division One, the C-Team finished as runners-up of Division Two. Andrew Daish joined Staddon to represent their team and collected runner-up medals for absent teammates Simon Daish, Gerard Redman and James Harper.
Matthew Daish won the prestigious David Turner Bournemouth closed trophy, but could not attend the ceremony. Brother Andrew was more than happy to collect the trophy on his behalf. Matthew also had an outstanding season in the Premier League, winning all 28 of his matches.
The Valerie Scott-Johns Memorial Cup for the tournament’s best match, in memory of New Milton club secretary Scott-Johns’ late wife, was won by James Roberts and Mike Lawford from Bournemouth Sports club.
