Match report: Lymington Town lose 1-0 to Fleetlands in Wessex League Division One action

LYMINGTON Town came out second best in a hard-fought Wessex League Division One loss to Fleetlands at Powder Monkey Park on Saturday.

Promotion-chasing Fleetlands may have picked up all three points, but Lymington manager Ash Buckland was disappointed not to get more from the game.

He said: “It was disappointing not to come away with any points; football is about fine margins. We had our chances but didn’t take them, and then a moment of switching off cost us against Fleetlands.

“The lads are working hard, and we know we can give anyone a game in this league, so we have to pick ourselves back up and be ready to go again at home against what will be a strong Frimley Green on Saturday.”

A goal in the 25th minute from Alfie Liss – his fourth goal of the season – was enough for the Coptermen to triumph.

Lymington’s best player was young Scottish midfielder Aaron Christie, who marshalled the midfield and played with a maturity beyond his years.

Lymington Town plays at home on Saturday, taking on second-placed Frimley Green at 3pm.
