Match report: Sway CC (64) battered by ruthless Andover CC (69-1) in heavy nine-wicket Southern Premier Cricket League (SPCL) Division Two loss
Sway will want to forget an astonishing nine-wicket defeat away to Andover after being dismissed for a paltry 64 runs away from home on Saturday.
The defeat saw Sway slip to their second consecutive defeat after an abject batting display left the unfortunate New Forest side with the hopeless task of defending an undefendable target.
Already without the services of skipper all-rounder Dave Steadman, who pulled a muscle against New Milton last week, the Foresters’ top order yet again failed to provide any platform.
Andover’s imposing and penetrative seam attack, led by pacy and accurate openers Aiden Jensen (3-13) and Babu Veettil (2-7), savaged Sway to 16-5.
Only Matt Young (16) managed to break doubles figures among the top-five batters, with Jake Smith (4), Will Crossley (2), Alex Hall (1), Thor Harradine (0), and Tom Richards (2) all out after facing less than eight deliveries.
The rest of the side quickly folded, with wicketkeeper Thomas Burton (10) and Jon Grasham (11 not out) being the only Sway men to score more than four runs.
There were two wickets each for fellow seamers Mike Adams (2-12) and Sachin Sivanandan (2-23), with skipper John Nyumbu (1-9) chipping in with a late show of off-spin.
Home opener George Reynolds raced to a 26-ball undefeated 50, which featured four fours and four sixes, with his winning shot allowing tea to be taken after the match.
Sway will hope for better when taking on New Forest rivals Langley Manor away from home at Knellers Lane at 12:30pm.
