Match report: Sway CC (192-9) end poor Southern Premier Cricket League (SPCL) Division Two run with narrow one-wicket win over Hartley Wintney CC (191)
Sway put a challenging run of three consecutive losses behind them with a hard-fought, nail-biting one-wicket win at home to Hartley Wintney on Saturday.
Sway made hard work of completing the narrow victory against Hartley Wintney, who had been dismissed for 191 in the 48th over.
Thomas Burton claimed four victims behind the stumps, while leg-spinner Tom Richards (3-49) was the leading wicket-taker.
The others came from skipper David Steadman (2-34), Richard Thomas (2-30), left-arm seamer John Grasham (1-34), and Danny Russell (1-42).
Scott Baldwin top-scored for Hartley Wintney with 44, with Kyran Munt (34), Tom Wiltshire (21 not out), and Ben Williams (20) the other main contributors.
After failing to impress, the home top-order had former Hythe & Dibden skipper Richards to thank for restoring Sway’s fortunes, steering the total from 46-4 to 185-8.
Jake Smith contributed a brisk 23 before it was left to Grasham to hit the winning runs with nine balls to spare, with just final-man Thomas for company.
For the away side, there were two wickets each for Ethan Ramsay (2-45), Shafeh Asmat (2-47) and Adam Barnard (2-25), while Tom Wiltshire (1-27) and Mark Teale (1-25) chipped in with one each.
Next up, fourth-placed Sway travels to face third-placed Calmore Sports at Loperwood Park at 12:30pm.
