Velocity Wessex Division One match, Fawley AFC v Whitchurch United FC: Superior Oilers slip three goals
Velocity Wessex Division One
Fawley AFC 0
Whitchurch United FC 3
Fawley AFC was wasteful in front of goal, costing them against a clinical Whitchurch United, who secured a three-goal victory at The Eight Wealth Arena.
The Oilers had multiple chances to score, but their failure to do so saw the frustrated side slide down the table to 12th with a game in hand on many of their counterparts.
With 13 minutes played, the Jam Boys took the lead when Dave Parry eluded his marker to head home Aleks Kokoszka’s whipped corner.
The game’s second goal soon arrived in a fashion nearly identical to the first. However, this time, Brett Denham provided the final touch to another Kokoszka corner.
Fawley then improved drastically, with the Whitchurch defence forced deeper and deeper as Will Berry and Tom Plank looked to provide width on the flanks.
Dylan Knight came closest to scoring for Fawley, powering a brilliant header off the crossbar from a well-taken free-kick before keeper Harry Nash came to the Jam Boys’ rescue, denying Declan Hartigan to preserve his side’s two-goal lead.
It was one-way traffic after the break, with the Oilers dominant in every way.
Knight and Hartigan came within inches of scoring, with the former seeing a wonder save that denied him and the latter rattling the woodwork.
With the match moving into its final exchanges, Whitchurch broke away on the counter, with striker Denham adding insult to injury with his side’s third.
The Oilers host Ash United on Saturday at 3pm.
