New Milton Town Robins U16S ended their youth football life in fine style by lifting the Bournemouth Cup with a thrilling victory over Bournemouth Electric
New Milton Town Robins signed off their final season in youth football in fine style by lifting the Bournemouth Cup.
After ten years together, formerly as Hordle Spurs and then New Milton Robins after the clubs merged, the team left themselves with memories to last a lifetime after a cup-winning goal deep into added time.
The team was managed for the entire decade by Toby Gore and his assistant, Tony Monk, with three players – Zach ‘Tig’ Monk, Rhys Gore, and Alfie Deeprose – who were part of the team throughout.
To reach the final against Bournemouth Electric, the Robins played some excellent games and scored wonderful goals, winning two penalty shootouts.
In the winner-takes-all finale, New Milton went one goal up before Electric restored parity. The Robins retook the lead just before the break, only to see the scores at 2-2 after the break.
With 20 minutes left, the Robins had a man sent off. With extra time moments away, Jamie Horgan scored a stunning goal in the 98th minute to win the cup and bring the curtain down on ten years of youth football for all the lads involved with the club.
A club spokesperson said: “Thanks to all involved with the club over the years, with a special thanks to Fiona Hooper and Theresa Deeprose for all the behind-the-scenes work and to all the lads involved over the years. It was a fantastic journey, and Sundays will never be the same.”
