Pylewell Park Cricket Club’s anniversary toasts 160 years of cricket, with auction prizes provided by local businesses La Bougie, Muse et Moi, Perfumery & Co, The High Street Kitchen, Lymington Yacht Haven, Juliet’s Pilates, Sterling Gardens and The Balmer Lawn Hotel

Pylewell Park Cricket Club celebrated its 160th anniversary with a glittering dinner at The Pavilion, the events venue within the picturesque Pylewell Park grounds.

More than 130 members and guests gathered to mark the milestone, enjoying an evening of food, music and fundraising to support the club’s future.

In his after-dinner speech, club chair Simon Williams reflected on Pylewell’s remarkable legacy and ongoing community role.

“Clubs like Pylewell don’t just serve their members – they serve the wider community too,” said Williams, pointing to recent initiatives including coaching school children at the club, a popular six-a-side Mid-Summer’s Day tournament, and a group of women for coaching and net sessions, with hopes that they will play some matches next season.

A new women’s team is also set to begin playing competitive fixtures next season, further expanding the club’s reach and inclusivity.

Williams paid tribute to the Roper-Curzon family – proprietors of Pylewell Park and long-time club supporters – several of whom attended the event. He also thanked Janie Williams for her assistance in organising the evening with the many volunteers who helped with decorations, signage in club colours, and catering contributions.

The fundraising auction led by club social secretary and auctioneer Andy Horrocks exceeded all expectations. Bids poured in for a range of generously donated prizes from local businesses, including La Bougie, Muse et Moi, Perfumery & Co, The High Street Kitchen, Lymington Yacht Haven, Juliet’s Pilates, Sterling Gardens and The Balmer Lawn Hotel.

The result was the raising of several thousand pounds on the night – a vital boost that will help ensure the club’s future.
