Match report: New Milton RFC’s struggles continue with 19-5 Hampshire Counties One loss to Trojans RFC.
New Milton continues not to get what they deserve after a decent but ultimately fruitless showing in a 19-5 Hampshire Counties One loss against Trojans on Saturday.
The defeat is New Milton’s ninth in a row. However, the last two weeks have seen the side put in much-improved displays, and the club will hope their bad luck ends soon.
The hosts played well despite Trojans having the wind and rain to their advantage in the first half, clearing their lines with big kicking and putting Milton under pressure.
Thanks to Storm Bert, the hosts had to run out of trouble as kicking was not an option, and their handling had to be accurate on a slippery ball.
On top of the adverse conditions, a yellow card to Tom Woods did not help, but they did well to keep the score down.
Although New Milton scored early on, unfortunately, the horrendous conditions stopped halfway through the second half, allowing Trojans to return to their skilled kicking game.
New Milton had plenty of spells camped out in the Trojans 22, but repeatedly, Trojans managed to get away without conceding points.
Another yellow and Trojans made the gap comfortable again, which disappointed the hosts after the effort they had put in.
New Milton will have the weekend off before taking on Havant seconds at home next Saturday at 12pm.
