Nigel Bliss, Ian Anstead, Trenton Hendy and Paul Iliffe win New Milton Table Tennis Club’s summer pairs competition with Ospreys
Nigel Bliss, Ian Anstead, Trenton Hendy and Paul Iliffe were victorious at New Milton Table Tennis Club’s summer pairs competition with Ospreys.
In the close season of the Bournemouth & District Table Tennis League, club secretary and general factotum Bev Scott-Johns decided to start up the event in 2013 - and it has flourished ever since.
The competition is open to players from other clubs in the Bournemouth & District Table Tennis League and takes place at the Mudeford Wood Community Centre.
There were eight teams and more than 40 players involved, including New Milton club members, the Merton and Bournemouth Sports clubs, together with some players who only usually play socially, this year.
Members who had previously been allocated a league handicap of 45 or less are treated as seeded players.
Ospreys captain Bliss, wheelchair player Anstead, Hendy and Iliffe finished top on 154 points.
Captain Chris Pusey, David Forbes and Terry Jenvey ensured The Kites finished as this season’s runners-up.
Last year’s winners, the Kestrels - made-up of David Atherton, Andy Ingram, James Moss and Steve Martin - came third with 134 points.
The Sandy Fagan Memorial Trophy was presented to the winning team at a club night.
Sandy is the wife of the late club legend Bob Fagan and is a former club secretary.
