BASHLEY recorded their seventh win in a row to move up to fourth in the league after an excellent team performance against a solid AFC Portchester side.

Adam Grange and Lewis Ross shared the goals as the hosts overcame a confident Royals side that had amassed 15 goals in their last two games.

Bashley attacked from the start, and they deservedly took the lead when Ross continued his prolific run of penalty conversions after Harry Bunce was unjustly stopped in the area.

Ross and Sam Jackson both went close with headers from a series of goalmouth crosses before the visitors won a penalty, which Brad Lethbridge converted.

The game was open and fast flowing at this stage, with Bash dangerous on the press and the Royals quick on the break. Then, with ten minutes until the break remaining, a bullet of a throw-in by Dan Thompson surprised the visitor, but not Grange, who headed home despite the crowded goal line.

Bashley took control soon after the restart when Royals keeper Konrad Szymaniak floored Bunce for the game's third penalty. Then, in a change of technique, Ross blasted the ball down the middle.

Moved into a more attacking role, Jamie Webber delivered a delightful cut back to Grange, who ghosted into the right place to make it 3-1.

Former AFC Bournemouth player Matt Tubbs and Bue Bennett came on to see the final minutes out with the Bashley defence standing firm under the strict marshalling of the ever-vigilant Ross Casey beneath the sticks.
