Callum Olden leads Ellie Monks home with narrow 35-second lead in latest Brockenhurst parkrun

DESPITE the cold and the recent rain, it stayed dry for the 228 people who ran and jogged Brockenhurst parkrun’s sheltered Wilverley Inclosure course.

Leading the field home for the 21st time was M20 Callum Olden of Southampton AC, who ran 17:16, finishing 35 seconds ahead of clubmate and Brockenhurst parkrun female course record holder W40 Ellie Monks.

Monks set the highest female age grade score, but she was pipped to the overall top honours by first-time visitor and ex-international athlete M60 Julian Critchlow of Purbeck Runners, who posted a time of 18:38.

Lymington’s international runner Valeria Sesto finished as the second-place female, with Lymington Triathlon Club’s Gemma Russhard coming in third.

Leading the juniors home was M11 Sam Martin with a parkrun PB of 21:58, while New Forest Juniors AC’s W11 Elsa Norris led the girls in 22:57.

Alice Curtin holds the fastest dog-assisted time for the Wilverley course with a phenomenal time of 15:47 set back in February 2022. She was returned without her speedy hound and, along with W30 Demi Curtin, took a more leisurely time.

Representatives of 32 different clubs took part, with a dozen visitors from Poole AC making their club the most well-represented.

New Forest Runners’ M30 John Slattery ran his 100th parkrun milestone, M45 Kevin Bulmer reached 50, and W18 Victoria Mason marked her 25th with a personal best.
