New Milton Town FC’s walking football team recently won the Hampshire FA walking competition against Gosport Greens, Portsmouth NSG, Winchester Greens, Hawks Originals, and Southampton Strollers
New Milton Town FC’s walking football team recently won the Hampshire FA walking competition in Southampton, playing teams from around the county.
They won their group by three points after five matches, besting second-placed side Southampton Strollers and Winchester Greens, who came third.
They beat Gosport Greens 1-0, then Portsmouth NSG 2-0, Winchester Greens 1-0, Hawks Originals 1-0, before a 1-1 draw with Southampton Strollers.
The walking football group has been running since April 2018 and has nearly 40 members ranging in age from mid-50s to late 70s.
“Walking football provides many outlets for keeping people active”, said New Milton Town FC’s Alan Meheux. “It offers both social and mental health support.
“We play in the Hampshire Football Association tournaments throughout the football season and also take part in the walking football FA Cup.
“Although we have a waiting list to join, we can be found on Facebook.”
New Milton Town FC walking football side plays twice a week on Tuesdays at Shorefields, Milford-on-Sea and Fridays in Mudeford.
