NEW Milton Town won a vital relegation six-pointer against Frimley Green, escaping the foot of the table after their fourth win in the last six games.

The Linnets have only tasted defeat once in that six match long run, and the latest three points lifted them two places, 11 points away from Frimley Green and safety.

With the game’s only goal, one of New Milton Town’s youth products, young attacker Barney Stone, did enough to win the tense contest.

New Milton Town have flooded their ranks with recruits in recent weeks, but it was a returning player, Linnets stalwart Ashley Booker, who won the man of the match award after a composed game at centre-back.

The hosts had a few chances to break the deadlock, but after a goalless first half, Stone found some space and fired off a bobbling effort that evaded Chris Harris in the Frimley goal for the lead in the 60th minute.

Tyler Disson-Roberts needed to be excellent in the home goal, and he showed his worth, repelling any efforts that made it past the staunch defence to help his side take all three points.

The Linnets will look to keep their momentum going when they face Clanfield tomorrow (Tuesday) away at 7:45pm and then host Andover Town on Saturday at 3pm.

New Milton Town: T. Disson-Roberts, B. Morris, B. Cooper, C. Speers, A. Booker, T. Lanham, C. Ford, A. Trodd, B. Snelling, O. Davis, B. Stone. Subs: O. Mayo, C. Lelerco, C. Lane, R. Smith, A. Matthews.
