Wessex League Division 1 football: New Milton Town see off East Cowes Victoria
Wessex League Division 1
New Milton Town 2
East Cowes Victoria 1
THE Linnets continue their remarkable turnaround in form, impressively dispatching the Vics who sit in the last play-off spot atop the division.
Having grabbed two points from their first 22 games, New Milton have now racked up 20 points from their last 10.
This still leaves them eight points from safety – but with four games in hand on Frimley Green who sit just above them outside the three relegation spots.
Only two of their remaining eight matches are against sides in the bottom half of the table, but on the strength of this showing, even high-flying Hamworthy will be wary ahead of their clash this Thursday.
Lee Francis added New Milton’s first in the 28th minute, with the Vics’ Harrison Yates levelling shortly after the start of the second half.
The prolific Barney Stone continued his fine form, hitting the winner in the 60th minute, as New Milton held on to take a much deserved win in front of the 88-strong crowd.
New Milton travel to second-bottom Andover today (Tuesday), host table-toppers Hamworthy on Thursday and face 10th-placed Romsey on Saturday.
