Mick Anglim of New Forest Cycling Club and Hardley Runners made the podium at the 2025 European duathlon and sprint duathlon championships.

Mick Anglim of New Forest Cycling Club and Hardley Runners made the podium while competing against younger athletes at the 2025 European duathlon and sprint duathlon championships in Rumia, Poland.

In his fourth year in the M75 category, Anglim was not expecting to be on the podium against younger European and world champions, so he was pleased to win two medals on consecutive days.

That put the 77-year-old on 45 medals, two clear on top of the all-time Great Britain age group medal table.

The run and bike courses were flat, but the cold early morning temperatures and exposed bike course made clothing choices tricky.

First up, Anglim took on the sprint race, which was a draft-legal race. However, after a slow 5k, he was too slow to get into the group on the 20km bike leg, so he was left to ride by himself.

Despite that, he was pleased to win the M75 bronze medal with a time of one hour, 18 minutes and 51 seconds. The winner, David Juggins, was also a GB athlete, and it was his first European title.

The next day, Anglim took on the standard duathlon, which, despite being double the distance on all three legs, no drafting was allowed on the 40km bike leg.

He was one of only two M75 competitors to race both events, so he struggled to run the first 10km in 55 minutes but completed the 55km event in two hours, 46 minutes and seven seconds. He again won bronze, with Hjalmar Schiotz of Norway winning gold for his 13th international medal.

Anglim’s international medal tally includes 21 world and European titles. It also means that he automatically qualifies to represent GB in both the 2026 European duathlon championships.
