Milford on Sea Tennis and Squash Club’s Wendy Slater-Johnson and partner Belinda Turnbull crowned national indoor champions at ITF Masters Tour 700 event

Milford on Sea Tennis and Squash Club’s Wendy Slater-Johnson came through a gruelling final to become national indoor champion after winning the ITF Masters Tour 700 event in Wrexham in the Ladies Doubles 60 years and over.

Slater-Johnson and her playing partner, Belinda Turnbull from Yorkshire, powered their way into the final with two straight-set wins. They faced the unseeded pair of Gillian Galloway and Jenny Hughes in the championship round.

After the pairs shared the first two sets, a 10-point tiebreak determined who would go home with the trophies. Slater-Johnson and Turnbull rose to the occasion, playing excellent tennis and gaining the 10 points needed to secure the title and become the national indoor champion.
