Facing competitors from 24 European nations, Lymington Amateur Rowing Club’s Chamberlain-Hyde delivered a commanding performance throughout the two-day regatta.

Despite drawing the very first race of the championships — giving him little time to assess the wind and sea conditions — he set the tone for the event with a powerful opening performance.

Assisted by his British Rowing coach, Kath Coleman-Jones, and senior GB teammate Jerry Owen as boat-handlers, Chamberlain-Hyde posted the second-fastest time in the time trial, just half a second behind Germany’s Felix Krones.

From there, he swept confidently through the knockout rounds — defeating Hungary to secure his place in the quarter-final against Portugal’s Dinis Oliveira, which he won comfortably despite strengthening crosswinds.

A dominant 30-second victory over Lukas Krizek of Czechia in the semi-final propelled Chamberlain-Hyde into the final, where he faced Markus Vicks of Estonia.

A flawless start saw him seize the lead early, rounding the buoys cleanly and powering back to shore 15 seconds ahead of his rival to secure the European title.

Following a two-week Team GB training camp in Torrevieja, Spain, Chamberlain-Hyde’s victory was part of an exceptional overall performance from the British squad. His gold, alongside James Cox’s win in the men’s solo and Laura McKenzie’s silver in the women’s solo, placed Great Britain at the top of the medal table for the championships.

With his European title now secured, Chamberlain-Hyde continues to cement his place among Britain’s brightest and most exciting young rowing talents.
