Milford on Sea Bowls Club’s unveils new benches as season begins

Milford on Sea Bowls Club’s first informal roll-up of the 2025 season coincided with the unveiling of new benches surrounding the green.

The new benches will give spectators excellent views of the play, and several past and present club members contributed to the costs.

These benches were dedicated to family, friends, or former club members, with plaques engraved accordingly fixed to each one.

Jean Adams and Kevin Beasant purchased a bench “in memory of those loved and lost”. Kevin wasn’t available for the photo, so Jean was joined by her son, Paul and club president, Chris Capron.

Trevor and Margaret Rock dedicated their bench to the memory of their son, Alistair, a long-standing club member. Trevor said: “We sat on a bench positioned more or less where our donated bench is, watching him play and smiling as he walked up and down the rink.

“Although he passed away roughly three years ago, that smile is etched in our memory as if it were yesterday.

“We are indebted to the solemnity of dedicating the bench by the club and subsequently for presenting a club banner to us.”

Finally, Angela Rowe, accompanied by her daughter, Nikki, dedicated a bench to her husband, Mike Rowe, who joined Milford on Sea Bowls Club in 2017. He spent many hours working on the Milford green, sharing his experience. Nikki, a co-owner of South Lawn Hotel, is a major supporter of the Milford bowls club and sponsors The South Lawn Shield Competition.

A club spokesperson said: Other benches were purchased by club members, and we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to all those who did so, which has enhanced the spectator area.”
