Lymington-based 12-year-old Archie Light shines in first Cuestars U21 Bronze Tour triumph

Lymington lad Archie Light discovered the secret to success on the junior snooker circuit in south London.

The 12-year-old said practising hard and trying his best helped him cross the winning line for the first time on the Cuestars U21 Bronze Tour.

Watched by his proud parents, Craig and Vikki, Light beat Oliver Donnelly (Wandsworth) 2-1 in the final of the sixth leg at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon.

It was the only frame he dropped out of 12 all day.

“It feels good,” he said. “I struggled in a couple of frames [but] I played well, and I was potting well and I tried my best.”

He said about his preparation: “I practised all week – apart from Tuesday.”

Light’s delighted World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association coach Tim Dunkley watched the champagne moment. He said: “Working hard and trying your best does not guarantee success at anything, but it sure helps.

“Archie did what he has been threatening to do for a year or so. I’m so pleased for him and his mum and dad.”

Light debuted in Salisbury in September 2022 and is now ranked fourth in his third season.

The day before, he clinched third place in the Eastleigh & District U19 League at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club. In previous seasons, he has won the U13 title twice.

New Milton’s Sam Perkins, who won the two previous events in Salisbury and Swindon, remains at the top of the rankings despite losing in the last 16 to Stanley Sims (Woking).

The event was sponsored by Frames Sports Bar (framessportsbar.com) and snookerdad Tan Jeraj. The seventh leg will be hosted at Frames Sports Bar in Coulsdon on 16th February.

New Forest-based youngsters who wish to follow in Perkins and Light’s footsteps should email Dunkley at timdunkleysnookercoach@gmail.com or contact 07986 376114.
