Lymington happy to see ranks swell and cricket improve

LYMINGTON CC U9s has enjoyed a winning start to the new cricket season while seeing their ranks swell with recruits.

Following a successful, albeit curtailed campaign last year, the squad of players now number almost 30. One of the reasons for this is the new Tuesday training, which has seen numbers swell, with many saying their cricket improvement is remarkable.

The team has also done well in competitive action, with everyone playing matches against other clubs. Aside from the regular league and cup matches, games against older age groups have also been arranged to help the more experienced players to continue to progress.

In a recent match, the team managed to score a near-record 404 runs.

Coach James Chapman said: “It’s fantastic to see the youngsters come back to cricket this summer stronger and full of enthusiasm.

“The batting against Burley was as good as we’ve seen; 400 is a scarce sight. The kids have loved it”.

Team manager Simon Naylor said: “Working to keep improving skills whilst integrating new players hasn’t been easy. However, it’s a testament to the kids’ commitment that their cricket keeps getting better and better with every week that goes by.

“They are into the next round of the cup, and we’re looking forward to seeing them develop further and enjoying cricket.”
