Match report: Lymington Town FC held to 1-1 Wessex League Division One draw by Ash United despite deserving more after second-half showing
Lymington Town went into the match as heavy favourites, but after trailing at the break, they did more than enough to beat Ash United on Saturday, but they had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Lymington keeper Nico Trojanowski brilliantly saved a spot-kick – not for the first time this season – but James Chivers gave Ash the lead before Will Johnson levelled to ensure a share of the points.
A point away from home is always valuable, but I feel that we could have come away with more”, said Lymington Town manager Ash Buckland. “Especially after our second-half performance!
“We started okay; however, we soon faded, and the first half was very scrappy. We didn’t control possession or create enough chances. They put us under pressure, and we let them take control of the first half. They were awarded a penalty, but once again, Nico [Trojanowski] came to the rescue with a great save.
“After that, though, we got caught out by a short corner, and they scored from it.”
Buckland added: “In the second half, we came out much more positively and controlled the game better. Our ball retention was good, and we dictated play through midfield, with Aaron [Christie] and Ben [Morris] both making their mark on the game.
“At the back, we stayed strong with Noah [Bullen], Lewis [Crozier], Scott [Barron], and Jack [Higdon], which was good to see.
“Credit to the lads for their effort in the second half. Johnno (Will Johnson) took his goal really well despite being taken clean out by the Ash United goalkeeper. Unfortunately, he had to come off injured from the challenge.
“We had opportunities to win the game, but credit to Ash United. They defended well and kept us out. Looking ahead, we’ll take the positives from this game, especially the second half, as we return home this weekend to face Cove.”
Lymington Town plays at home on Saturday when they face Cove FC, who sit one place lower than Lymington, at 3pm.
