ARNEWOOD School’s Ollie Bailey’s strong show at UK National Kart Cup (NKC) British Championships at the Clay Pigeon Raceway.

ARNEWOOD School’s go-kart racer Ollie Bailey put in a strong showing in the first round of the UK National Kart Cup (NKC) British Championships at the Clay Pigeon Raceway.

As part of the series, the Hordle-based teenager will take on the best 90 drivers from across the country over six weekends on six of the top karting tracks in the country.

The weekend started with an unfortunate incident in the first round, with contact from behind sending the teenager off the track at the first corner.

He rejoined the race in the 30th before producing an excellent recovery to cross the line in 16th place. However, a nosecone penalty gave him a finishing position of 18th.

In the second heat, the 16-year-old gradually climbed through the pack after starting 23rd, giving him a 14th-place finish after penalties before another 14th-place finish in the final heat.

Due to the opening race incident, Ollie had not scored enough points to qualify for the A-Final, so he lined on the B-Final grid, starting in fourth.

The lead-four broke away quickly, and Ollie soon reached second. But after going wide, he gave up two positions.

However, the top four would qualify for a back-of-the-grid start in the A-Final, and after penalties, Ollie took second place.

With a 34th-place start, making decent progress would always be tricky, but he did well, climbing to 25th, although he and his father, Liam, left with a feeling that the result did not match their pace.

Go-karting is expensive, and the Bailey family actively seeks sponsors for the season to support Ollie in completing the whole NKC series this year.
