Adam Grange nets four as Bashley hit Hamble Cub for six in Wessex League promotion push

BASHLEY extended their unbeaten run to 17 matches and secured second place with two matches still to play – but the complicated promotion and regulation system will not be resolved until all matches at step five are completed with Bashley very much in the mix.
As befitting Grand National Day, Bashley – and Adam Grange in particular – were off as soon as the tape was lifted, and his onslaught on the Hamble goal started in the third minute with a confident finish to an Ollie Bradley cross-goal pass.
Thirteen minutes later he scattered the back-peddling home defence and by cutting in to the goal area and finished his solo effort with a shot across the goal face into the far corner of the net.
Lyle Simpson had an effort saved and Lewis Ross fired over the top before forcing a fantastic free-kick save. A Sam Jackson header went the wrong side of the bar before Simpson fed Grange who effortlessly swept home his hat-trick as the halftime whistle blew.
Grange claimed his fourth five minutes after the restart with yet another strong run into the goal area, and eight minutes later a buoyant Bradley netted Bashley’s fifth after Simpson's initial shot was deflected back into play.
Soon after, lively substitute Marcelo Rossi supplied Simpson to finish and reward his hard running and net Bashley's sixth. Despite the scoreline, visiting keeper Sammy Thompson had to remain alert to keep a clean sheet in what was a handsome win.
