Evans sets new Brockenhurst record with a second to spare

Thomas Evans sped around this weekend’s Brockenhurst parkrun to mark former event director Mick Anglims’ 500th volunteer day with a course record.

Hardley Runners’ M75 Anglim, a multiple-time European and world champion in duathlon, was instrumental in setting up Brockenhurst parkrun, and his fellow organisers revelled in the chance to celebrate his 500th day.

Winchester & District AC’s Evans led the 216-strong field across the line, with his impressive 16:00 time setting a new record for the Wilverley Inclosure course by just one second.

It was the 23rd time that Evans ran Brockenhurst parkrun since 2018, and it was his 12th personal best (PB) there. He also set the highest male age grade score.

Course record holder Southampton AC’s W40 Ellie Monks led the women home for the 50th time in 17:42, setting the highest age grade score, just 13 seconds away from her course record.

The first junior was Leo Higgins, running 19:47, the second fastest of his 71 parkruns, while Constance King led the girls home with a time of 20:43.

Representatives of 37 different clubs took part with Dundee Road Runners AC, represented by W35 Hannah Tippetts and M35 James Barnet, and Scrabo Striders of Northern Ireland, represented by M35 Matt Bell, the furthest travelled clubs.

Organisers thanked the 26 volunteers, who were Anglim, Maxine Slade, Alan Horswell, Katrin, Micky and Robbie Pritchard, Natalie Knight, Luisa Holt, Alison Moores, Carys Gallagher, Rosemarie Osborn, Jean Wright, Darryl Stevens, Stewart Chanter, Eloise Knight, Peter Wilson, Barbara Walkton, Christopher Potter, Michael Gargaro, Bella Woolhouse-Read, Kate Garner, Ben Caufield-Lawrence, Terri-Louise and Carolyn Ballard, Beatrice Meaker, and Olivia Longley.
