Match report: Brockenhurst FC score five in 5-1 Wessex League Premier Division victory over Wincanton Town FC
Brockenhurst FC ended a four-game winless streak and scored five goals for the first time since August, beating Wincanton Town FC at the Meadens Skoda Arena on Saturday.
Harry Bunce was the star of the show, grabbing an excellent hat-trick, while Jake Adams notched the other two in a comfortable victory.
“Really pleased with the win”, said Brockenhurst boss Danny Ackland. “The pitch was really hard with the bobble, so we had to take fewer risks playing out than we would have liked. It took us a while to get going, but then we played really well until half-time and could have been more comfortable.
“They made it hard in the second half, and it was a bit more like a game of attrition with them going really long and pressing higher, but we scored two really good goals and were comfortable. We were then able to play three young lads, Romario [Todd-Jackson] and Max [Farrar], for their debuts, and Zsom [Komaromi] for only his second game.
“Sloppy goal to concede at the end, but overall, very happy. Hopefully, we can breathe a little now without looking over our shoulders.”
The Badgers were on it from the start, almost breaking the deadlock with one of their first attacks, but the final pass let them down.
Although the Wasps had moments, the hosts found the breakthrough with 35 minutes played. Bunce fired a brilliant shot across the goal, but after hitting the woodwork, the ball trickled along the goal line. Bunce reacted quickly, swinging at the loose ball. Despite a wayward effort that again hit the post, this time, it rebounded into the net.
Two minutes later, Brockenhurst had doubled their lead, with Adams latching onto the ball and coolly converting before he grabbed his second following a driving run from Ben Atiako-Hall. Atiako-Hall slid the ball through the heart of the defence before the goalscorer rolled the ball home.
Just after the hour mark, Atiako-Hall beat the Wincanton keeper to the ball, but his first-time effort struck the crossbar. The ball flew high before making its way to Bunce, who had the simple task of scoring.
The Badgers’ final goal came moments later, with Wincanton punished for trying to play out from the back. Jamie-Jay Burgess took possession of the ball in the area, and after the visitors’ attempts to regain the ball failed, Bunce seized the moment to complete his hat-trick.
Wincanton kept playing with hope, and they got their rewards when Oli Crisp ran onto a route one long ball to fire past Jordi Valero.
Brockenhurst have the weekend off, and they will play Hamworthy Recreation away from home next Tuesday.
