Southern League football: Battling Lymington succumb to Tavistock after early red card
Southern League Division 1
Tavistock AFC 3
Lymington Town 1
TOWN got off to a horrendous start on Saturday with a first-minute penalty and red card against a Tavistock side who hadn't won since early January.
And despite a battling performance, the advantage was insurmountable, despite Jireh Oyebamiji's goal offering some hope.
Tim Stephenson had barely pulled on his shirt when he was given his marching orders after bringing down Liam Prynn in the box and being judged the last man. Prynn duly dusted himself off and converted high past Amad Skrzyniarz.
Barely five minutes later, Town were looking down the barrel of a heavy defeat when Iestyn Harris finished well after a fine spell of possession from the Lambs.
Tavistock had a couple of excellent chances to extend their lead, with Prynn failing to keep his shot down, before Lymington pulled one back on 30 minutes, Oyebamiji easing past a defender and nutmegging Tavistock keeper Josh Oak.
The home side came out strongly in the second half, but Lymington kept them honest with some exemplary defensive work.
However, Adam MacPherson put the result beyond doubt for Tavistock on the 78th minute after a one-two with Prynn.
Lymington are away to Westbury United tomorrow (Tuesday) and host Evesham United on Saturday.
