Bashley took an early lead thanks to Luke Delaney, but the only thing anyone spoke about after the 2-2 draw with hosts Shaftesbury was Lewis Waterfield’s audacious leveller from the halfway line.

Both sides finished the game with 10 players after two players earned second yellows, but the match’s magic moment came when Waterfield scored a 78th-minute leveller from the middle of the pitch.

Bash had taken the lead after 12 minutes when Luke Delaney scored past Shane Murphy, but goals from Greg Peel and Remus Nixon flipped the game on its head. There was a buzz before kick-off, with Bashley handing a debut to Sam Gadsby after announcing the signing on matchday.

Signed from Portland United, the 18-year-old centre-half, who has already played over 50 Wessex Premier Divison games, is seen as a top young talent with high potential.

The opener came after an excellent run from Charlie Wooding, who burst into the box before finding Scott Bungay, who teed the ball off to Delaney. The hard-working attacker wasted no time, smashing the ball home.

Brett Williams became involved in a scuffle, earning a yellow card before sliding in five minutes later. He then earned himself an early trip down the tunnel after a second yellow in the 41st minute.

Peel fired home a leveller moments before the break after winning a penalty, with keeper Mack Allan unable to deny him before Nixon headed the Rockies ahead just after the hour mark.

With 12 minutes left, Waterfield showed exquisite awareness, spotting Murphy off his line and chipping the keeper with a ludicrous effort, firing home for the halfway line to level the match.

Bash takes on Mousehole at home in an FA Trophy first-round qualifier on Tuesday at 7.45pm before hosting Didcot Town on Saturday at 3pm.
