Match report: Bashley 3-2 Tavistock AFC (Southern League), Brockenhurst 4-1 Totton & Eling, Blackfield & Langley 1-0 Downton (Southampton Senior Cup)
Bashley were involved in a dramatic midweek result, while in the cup, Brockenhurst faced off with Totton & Eling, and Blackfield & Langley faced Downton.
Bashley moved up to fourth in the Southern League Division One table after a back-and-forth contest in which Bashley had to come from behind before scoring a last-minute winner against Tavistock AFC on Tuesday night.
In the Southampton Senior Cup, Brockenhurst sealed back-to-back wins after beating Totton & Eling 4-1, while Blackfield & Langley clinched a 1-0 victory.
Bashley made a decent start to the match, but Tavistock broke clear after eight minutes, catching Bashley on the hop to take the lead thanks to Jacob Bowker.
The hosts responded well, with Luke Delaney and Scott Bungay going close, but Tavistock had the chance to double their lead after winning a soft penalty. However, Mack Allan, on loan from AFC Bournemouth, had other ideas and brilliantly saved.
Moments later, Charlie Wooding ensured Bashley went into the break on level terms after smashing home an equaliser, but in truth, they should have been leading.
The second half was scrappy, as could be expected with the weather conditions, but with 70 minutes played, Scott Bungay continued his excellent form, going on a mazy run before slotting past the keeper.
It looked as if Tavistock had committed a robbery when equalising in the 81st minute, but Bashley would not be denied.
First, Mitchell Speechley-Price had the ball in the back of the net before the linesman raised his flag before Charlie Wagstaffe scored in the 90th minute with a beautiful lob over the keeper from 20 yards out to spark wild celebrations on the pitch as well as the dugout and stands.
Brockenhurst flew out of the blocks in the Southampton Senior Cup to seal a dominant 4-1 victory over Totton & Eling.
The rain started shortly before kick-off and continued throughout the game, making playing conditions testing.
Despite that, Brockenhurst scored with just 90 seconds on the clock when Lyle Simpson pounced on a loose pass before feeding Jamie-Jay Burgess, who scored calmly.
One minute later, the Badgers doubled the lead. Pressing high, Brockenhurst charged down a clearance before Simpson thundered the ball into the roof of the net from close range to leave Totton & Eling shell-shocked.
The contest settled down afterwards, with Brockenhurst still the team looking most dangerous.
With 30 minutes played, Simpson grabbed his second to end the match as a contest effectively. Luke Gray found Jake Adams at the perfect moment, allowing him to beat the offside trap. Theo Vidger saved well, but Simpson crashed the rebound home from a narrow-angle to make it 3-0.
Totton & Eling, to their credit, still tried to make things happen. Eventually, their endeavour was rewarded with an own goal, but it counted for little when the hosts reasserted their three-goal lead when Ben Atiako-Hall hammered home after a stunning disguised dink from Josh Taylor.
A single first-half goal decided Blackfield & Langley’s contest with Downton in the Southampton Senior Cup, with Ashton Palmier nodding a goal in off the post after a delightful cross.
After the break, Dylan Roocroft struck the post after a dazzling run, and on reflection, the Blackfield & Langley will feel they deserved to win.
