BASHLEY and Hamworthy United shared a thrilling contest that had everything except goals, with the 234 in attendance treated to a feast of full-blooded attacking football.

The match kicked off at a frenetic pace, with both sides battling for early superiority. Bashley, still without key defenders Brad Morris and Jack Smith, were forced to field players out of position to fill the void.

The hosts were first out of the traps, and for the opening two minutes they tested the Hammers defence with a string of blocked attempts while Bue Bennett grazed the post with a decent effort.

The visitors had chances of their own, but in-form Sammy Thompson's quick reflexes turned them away empty-handed.

The match was an even contest for much of the half, but Bashley laid siege to the Hammers' goal for 15 minutes. Pacey winger Ollie Bradley rifled in a series of crosses after tormenting his marker, former Bashley favourite Tony Rolls.

River Smith, Lewis Ross and Bennett closed out the half with eight goal attempts that went either high, wide or handsomely blocked by experienced keeper Alan Walker-Harris, who was lucky to be still on the pitch. In a race to stop Smith, Walker-Harris tugged the striker's shirt from behind, bringing him down. Fortunately for him, the referee did not see the offence.

The second half saw both sides grow cagey in the knowledge that a single goal would probably be enough to win the match.

Harry Bunce started a one-person crusade and ended up on his back twice as he was felled for his efforts. Harrison White and Liam Farrugia worked tirelessly in midfield with the solid back-two, Brendan Willson and Lewis Aimson, and the indefatigable Dan Thompson controlling proceedings.

Bashley went close with a Lewis Ross pile-driver before Bunce attempted a lob. However, the final whistle came with both sides taking a point.
