BASHLEY ramped up their preparations for the upcoming Southern League Div One season with an impressive 3-1 defeat of Poole Town at the Glen Mex Stadium.

Both sides came into the friendly carrying perfect pre-season records, but Poole, who play a division higher than newly promoted Bashley, were quickly feeling the heat.

Bashley started well, and the Dolphins were more than a little fortunate to still be level after multiple near misses. One lucky escape came after four minutes when Adam Grange's fierce shot deflected wide for a corner. He then leapt highest and sent his header fizzing past the post.

The Bashley faithful did not have long to wait for the breakthrough when new signing Billy Lowes, who joined from Dorchester, delighted the 280-strong crowd with an unstoppable rocket.

The hosts extended the lead after 26 minutes when two new recruits linked up superbly, with the returning Harry McGrath setting up lethal striker Rafa Ramos to score on his home debut.

However, the Dolphins shoehorned their way back into the game just before the break after capitalising when a poor backpass preceded an even worse clearance from Bashley keeper Ross Casey.

Poole finished the half superbly, and they would have levelled but for heroic keeping from Casey, making up for his earlier infraction.

After a raft of changes, Bashley regained control, and Ramos made it a home debut to remember with his second goal after a disjointed Poole defence went missing on 66 minutes.

Bashley could have made it a humiliating night for the Dolphins when Harry Bunce's marauding run into the box saw a poor challenge which led to a penalty. But the usually lethal Lewis Ross sent his effort flying over the bar.
