FORMER Priestlands student and professional golfer Fin Kane has won the third round of the PGA Winter Series to put himself top of the order of merit.

The Barton golfer shot four-under at Sunningdale Heath Golf Club to take the overall victory by four shots.

Kane’s third professional victory came in less-than-ideal playing conditions with low temperatures and strong winds.

Kane’s performance saw him finish in or under par 16 times while hitting six birdies and just two bogeys over the 58-par 18-hole Sunningdale course.

The 21-year-old said: “I knew I was swinging well all day, and the course is always a tough test, so I knew with the score I had, I didn’t have to push too hard.

“When I hit my tee shot on the 16th on the fairway, I knew I had a good chance of winning.”

After a steady start, Kane, who turned pro in 2020, birdied three of his last six holes to move into first place in the series’ order of merit with three events to go.

Kane will play in the fourth round at Sand Martins Golf Club on 9th March.

Kane added: “ It meant a lot to win, especially since it earned me the top spot on the order of merit.

“I hope to push on with my form and win again on the 9th.”

The impressive win, which came against 60 other players, has earned Kane contracts with golf brands Titleist and FootJoy.

Windlesham Golf Club’s Luke Smith and Birchwood Park Golf & Country Club’s Ryan Tarrant tied for second place, four points behind on 36 points.
