BROCKENHURST manager Pat McManus hailed his players, staff and the club’s progression over the season after a Christie Ward strike ensured they beat Alresford Town in their last game of the season.
Ward cut in from out wide and fired home 10 minutes before half-time, and Brockenhurst dutifully held the visitors at bay over the second half at the Meadens Skoda Arena.
It means McManus’ side amassed a fine 78 points from 40 games this year with a goal difference of plus-44, which has placed them fifth in the Sydenhams Premier league. However, AFC Stoneham, who are a place behind, have one final game left this Saturday and a goal difference of plus-43.
"It was pleasing to win against, in my opinion, a much improved Alresford Town team," he told the A&T. "The match itself was settled by an excellent Christie Ward strike following good work from Silvano Obeng."
Summing up the season, he said: "Upon reflection it’s been an excellent season; the objectives we set as staff back in July have been achieved.
"At one point we were in a position where we could have potentially overachieved but March was a particularly taxing month for us in terms of player availability in relation to the amount of fixtures played.
"There have been some incredible positives around the club itself from a community engagement perspective in addition to the rapid progression of our younger players
"Highlights from me from a player perspective have been the goals and contribution of Silvano Obeng, witnessing the quality of Christie Ward, the steep incline and development of Seung-Woo Yang and the incredibly positive effect of our mid-season signing Alex Haynes
"Our recruitment process has already begun for next season and we’re anticipating further improvement."
