AFC Totton, Brockenhurst, and Blackfield & Langley all featured in midweek action, with each local side achieving differing results.

AFC Totton lost ground on league leaders Merthyr Town, slipping to a 1-1 draw against Frome Town while using up one of their games in hand, Brockenhurst beat AFC Shirley in a cup match, and Blackfield lost to AFC Stoneham.

In a frustrating Southern League Premier South match, AFC Totton failed to convert their many chances, slipping to a 1-1 draw with second-from-bottom Frome Town.

A superb goal from Rex Manning in the 64th minute gave the visitors a shock lead, but almost instantly, AFC Totton were level. After a ball forward found Ethan Taylor bearing down on goal, he planted his shot into the bottom left corner.

Jimmy Ball’s team were eager to put some more chances away against relegation-threatened Frome Town. The Robins’ league position was a bit misleading, though, as their recent form has demonstrated a stark improvement from the first half of their season.

Going into the break, The Stags had created several chances to take the lead while the visitors failed to threaten. However, the game remained goalless.

Still in the game, Frome played better football to start the second half and scored with one of their only shots on target when a strike from outside the box by Manning found its way through the bodies and past Ryan Gosney to give the away side a surprise lead on 64 minutes.

Just 30 seconds later, Taylor was played in through the heart of Frome’s defence to bring his side level with a brilliant, calm finish into the bottom-left corner.

As the game went on, only one team was pushing to win. However, the final whistle soon came, meaning the hosts had dropped two points.

Brockenhurst progressed to the semi-final of the Southampton Senior Cup with a 3-1 victory over AFC Shirley, which may appear on paper to be more comfortable than was the case.

Debutant goalkeeper Ryouke Takada earned his stripes while pulling on a Brockenhurst kit for the first time, earning the man-of-the-match award after making many excellent saves.

The hosts finally found the breakthrough, but it came in somewhat fortunate circumstances. Ben Atiako-Hall’s cross deflected into the opposite corner to leave the keeper with no chance.

The visitors pulled themselves level moments after the restart after a coming together in the box left a loose ball for captain Craig Hunt to poke home.

With 67 minutes played, Brockenhurst finally re-established their lead. Dylan Walker raced clear after a delightful through ball before jinking past the keeper and firing home.

AFC Shirley nearly levelled in the 89th minute when Jack Ormiston found some space. However, Takada pounced before pushing the ball around the post.

As the visitors pushed for a leveller, Jake Adams found Walker, who had again beaten the offside trap. He slid the ball to Lyle Simpson, who converted to settle the tie.

Backfield & Langley briefly levelled against AFC Stoneham, but the hosts scored twice more to seal a 3-1 Wessex League Premier Division victory.

The hosts led 1-0 at the break after a flicked header from Duarte Martins flew beyond Craig Wilson before almost doubling the lead, but the crossbar denied them.

Six minutes after the restart, a decent delivery from Leon Baker found the head of Josh Rose, who made no mistake and levelled the contest.

However, it was all downhill from there, with Martins adding his second, sliding in on 63 minutes before Daniel Miller nodded home six minutes later.
