A DEVELOPER has submitted plans to turn a derelict building in Totton into seven flats, despite being turned down for planning permission twice before.
Templeton Stockbridge has applied to demolish 4-6 Rumbridge Street and replace it with two retails units as well as the one-bedroom flats. No parking on-site is provided.
In 2018 a similar scheme for nine flats and a shop was thrown out on appeal, as was a 2017 attempt for eight apartments.
The application to New Forest District Council states: “The proposal addresses the two elements of concern within the previous schemes – the scale of the proposed building and the impact upon the vitality/viability of the town centre.
“The design of the development now ensures that it would integrate well within the surrounding buildings and accord with the council’s policies relating to design and local distinctiveness.”
It adds: “The proposed development would also deliver social and economic benefits from the provision of much needed housing in a sustainable location.
“The construction activities associated with the development would generate 11 temporary full-time construction jobs in the short-term, whilst the provision of the commercial units and additional residents within the area would provide great long-term economic benefit”.
So far, the application has attracted one objection letter from a local resident. The public consultation period ends on 14th August and NFDC is expected to make a decision in September.
