Cash and charity collection tins were taken after entry was forced to The Village Pet Shop in Ringwood Road, Bransgore, around 10.50pm.

Fordingbridge Service Station, in Southampton Road, was targeted about 50 minutes later when tills were snatched.

On both occasions, the thieves had fled the scene in a green Mercedes, which was also involved in a burglary at a post office branch in Dorset in the early hours of this morning. No further details on the post office’s location were available from police.

Detained on suspicion of burglary, the suspects, a 20-year-old and a 25-year-old, both from Ringwood, remain in custody while investigations continue.

The A&T previously reported a green Mercedes being used as a getaway car following a break-in at Budgens in Station Road, Sway, around 12.15am on Tuesday.

But a force spokesperson said this incident, in which a haul of cigarettes and a floor safe were stolen, was not being linked to the others.

Those with information about the break-ins should contact Hampshire police on 101, quoting crime reference number 44200399980, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
