Obituary: Gwen Meaden – NFDC councillor who served Sway




TRIBUTES have been paid to a former New Forest district councillor who served in Sway during the 90s.

Gwen Meaden was first elected to the council in 1991.

She served on the policy and resources and leisure services committees during her four years at the authority, which included representing the district on the Lymington Recreation Centre consultative committee.

Paying tribute at this month’s NFDC meeting, chairman Cllr Alan O’Sullivan said: “It is with great sadness that I inform you of the recent passing of former councillor Gwen Meaden.

“I would like to express our sincere condolences to Gwen’s family and friends, and place on record this council’s thanks for the service she has given to the district.”

Gwen, known as Geg by her family, passed away at Southampton Hospital on 2nd April, aged 98.

Her funeral will be held at St Luke’s Church, Sway, on 5th May at 1pm followed by a celebration of life at Sway village hall at 2pm.

Donations in her memory can be made to Oakhaven Hospice.
