Letter: What has happened to Lymington?

SIR – It has been some time since we last visited Lymington but when we visited last week we were somewhat dismayed and very disappointed with all the new developments.

Lymington used to be a quaint, unspoilt market town but now it has been seriously overdeveloped.

Retirement homes and blocks of flats have sprung up everywhere there is space, not to mention the monstrosity that has been built behind the railway station. It totally obstructs the once scenic views, which is a shame.

They are doing the same at other towns and villages throughout our region with apparently no thought to the chaos and extra burden on an already overstretched infrastructure.

The population has not increased that much to justify these new developments, plus they are so overpriced most local people cannot afford them anyway.

I am not sure what qualifications are required to work in a planning office but common sense is certainly not one of them!
