Letter: We’re crying out for more cycle lanes for short trips on Forest

ln one letter to the Lymington Times (13th Oct), the writer bemoans the advent of more cycle lanes in Southampton as this would hold up cars lorries etc.

Oh that we had many more safe cycle lanes and routes in our area to encourage people to make short journeys by bike rather than using cars.

With a safe and properly connected cycling infrastructure, many more people would make short journeys by bike rather than driving. The biggest cause of congestion for motorists is other vehicles.

Aside from the need to rapidly de-carbonise travel choices, if more people cycled there would be fewer cars and less congestion.

lt is the number of cars which cause congestion, not cycling.
