Letter: Thanks for taking a stand over Foxies future

Thank You Sir Julian! At last, someone has taken a stand in expecting the Charities Commission to investigate why Girl Guiding UK can ignore their responsibilities, not just to the Charities Commission but to every member of the Guiding movement in the country and indeed across the world.

The Foxies Future Trustees and management team, who are an incredible group of people, have done everything openly and absolutely ‘by the book’. Sir Julian has voiced what so many people have felt was happening.

Foxlease activity centre on Clay Hill in Lyndhurst is due to close at the end of the year.

I am one of thousand, probably millions of people who have spent their life in Guiding as both a member and supporter. I myself have been in Girl Guiding over 70 years, having taken many girls to camp and to events at Foxlease and trainings for myself. My husband built a woodland chapel there after we moved to the area.

It is a beautiful and meaningful place and a community asset, not just for Guiding, and people in the New Forest area but for everyone. My sons and my grandchildren have enjoyed events there too. It is just so special.

Foxlease is not the only property the Guiding ‘management’ people at CHQ have put up for sale; there are training centres and sites across the UK and around the world are for sale too.

So what is really happening in the name of Guiding? Thank you Sir Julian for taking a lead and speaking out on this.
