Letter: Removing New Forest tip appointments would be rubbish

I WOULD like to oppose the view put forward (A&T Letters 12th April) about visits to the tip/recycling at Efford.

Before we had appointments, I would load up the car with various items including grass clippings, vegetation, weeds from maintaining my garden. I might set off saying I won’t be long, but return home over an hour later having sat in a queue for most of that time. There was often no rhyme nor reason why the tip was so busy at a variety of times. A car sitting still, engine running, creates far more pollution and waste of fuel. You may turn the car off, but then starting and stopping it continuously also adds wear and tear to the engine.

Appointments are easy to do on the computer and you can even reschedule them at reasonably late notice if your plans change (or the weather!). You arrive at your allotted half hour and have to wait maybe 10 minutes at the most. I understand if you can’t book online then that may create problems, but most people nowadays must have access to a computer.

However, I believe the booking system for the tip is a far more efficient system and use of time, do not change it, please.

I’M with Gordon Pound all the way with regards booking a slot at the tip (A&T Letters 19th April).

I have the council app and have just looked up the availability at Efford. It’s 15.45 on Friday, there are still slots today and all day every day for the foreseeable future. What could be better?
