Letter: Nothing to loos in delaying Lymington quay toilets revamp

More news, no ads

SIR – I wonder if any one else has noticed the difference between speed of work in the public and private sector.

The Shell garage at the top of town has been completely demolished in two weeks and work has already begun on the new facilities.

Meanwhile on the quay, a group of highly motivated operatives working on behalf of New Forest District Council have spent the best of eight months refurbishing two loos and a few showers.

This work has not even required any major structural changes to the building.

This is frankly scandalous. The quay is the jewel in Lymington's crown and should not be tarnished by months of building works.

Unfortunately this is what you expect from the public sector where there is no commercial incentive to finish the job and no accountability for the delay.

One hopes it might be finished for the summer season and, if not, the person in charge should be sacked – but we know that won’t happen.

R. Phillips,
